The story behind Royal Oak Offshore

Audemars Piguet introduced the Royal Oak in 1972. Designed by Gerald Charles, the watch was highly appreciated among watch enthusiasts. AP took two major risks at the time of releasing the watch. For one, they offered a stainless steel watch at a time when luxury and precious metals were going hand-in-hand in the watch industry. Secondly, the mechanical watch was released during the time of the Quartz crisis. Nevertheless, the watch was very well received and is currently one of the most regarded models in the industry. After over 20 years, Audemars Piguet decided to take its next challenge with the Royal Oak Offshore in 1993. It was designed to be a more rugged and sporty version of the original Royal Oak. AP Royal Oak Offshore Automatic

AP Royal Oak Offshore is mostly offered with automatic movement. There are Quartz versions that are served in the 37mm Royal Oak Offshore Lady lineup. However, all the models with case size 42mm and above come with a self-winding automatic movement.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver

Audemars Piguet designed the Royal Oak Offshore with those in mind who want to push the boundaries. The rugged watch also comes in a Diver version that has been optimized for deep-sea diving. These watches do look like the regular Royal Oak Offshore but they have a small change. These watches do not get a rotatable bezel on the outside but it is placed cyanide in the sapphire crystal. It allows AP to still use the octagonal bezel with exposed screws, which is what makes it an Audemars Piguet. In order to control the rotatable bezel, AP Royal Oak Offshore Diver watches get a separate crown at 10 o’clock. In addition to that, the Diver watches come with 300 meters of water resistance in opposition to the 100 meters seen on the regular Royal Oak Offshore watches.
